SAG Awards Betty White with Best Female Actress in a Comedy Series!!
Betty White, an Emmy® Award-winner (“The Golden Girls”) has landed her second Screen Actors Guild (SAG) award in a row. In case you were wondering, yes, Betty White has been around a while. The SAG awards honor actors for outstanding performances on film and television. SAG award actors and actresses are nominated and chosen by a group of their fellow SAG member peers making the receipt of a SAG award a huge honor and validation to an actor and their career.
Unlike some actors who struggle through their twenties to become noticed, Betty’s career began in her early twenties and she quickly made a name for herself. It’s exciting to see a woman who has succeed through five decades of mounting competition. "I've been the luckiest old broad on two feet to have all the jobs that I've had," White said during an NBC tribute in her honor featuring Mary Tyler Moore, Burnett, Ellen, Hugh Jackman, Tina Fey, Ed Asner, and William Shatner.
Betty White, who recently turned 90 years old is awe-inspiring and we are lucky to have been able to see White practice her talents in so many different forums, from “Saturday Night Live” to her new “Candid Camera-esque” show, “Betty White’s Off Their Rockers,” and her latest show “Hot in Cleveland.”
The Baby Boom generation knows White from her role in “Life with Elizabeth” and as host of the annual Tournament of Roses parade. Generation Xers fell in love with her as Sue Ann Nivens on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” arguably her most famous role to date. For Millennials or Generation Y, we (myself included) remember her as the funny and naïve Rose Nylund in “The Golden Girls” and now the new “silent” generation or generation Z will remember her as Elka Ostrovsky the opinionated and outspoken care taker of a Cleveland home rented by Joy (Jane Leeves), Victoria (Wendi Malick), and Melanie (Valerie Bertinelli) three 40 something single women navigating the streets and men of Cleveland.
“There are reasons that Betty White has been on television for over 50 years,” said Larry W. Jones, president, TV Land. “She’s hilarious, her comedic timing is unmatched, and there’s nothing she can’t do. We’re grateful to work with her on ‘Hot in Cleveland,’ and couldn’t be more proud of her continued achievements.”
We’d all love to see more of Betty White, and looking into the future we probably will, the actress who recently celebrated her 90th birthday is currently writing another book about her four legged friends at the zoo and executive producing and hosting a new game show “Betty White’s Off Their Rockers,” a show about young people getting “punked” by old people and having a huge laugh at their expense. There is only one Betty White and she brings laughter and fun to whatever she does so we she’s around for a long time and has even more success in the future as she is having now. |
